Week 1 Assignment 2: Hazard Identification: Workplace Inspections

computer, calendar, and checklist

As was mentioned in the Overview for this week, hazard identification, along with evaluation, control and prevention are the foundations of workplace safety and health and are essential in preventing accidents that cause injuries and illnesses. Conducting workplace place inspections is a primary method of identifying hazards in the workplace. This assignment provides an opportunity for you to practice conducting workplace inspections.

This assignment draws from the Week 1 Video “Hazard Identification: The Safety Inspection” learning material.

This assignment would normally be conducted in-person at your current workplace or at a workplace that you have knowledge of but due to the pandemic, we will improvise. Instead of conducting in-person workplace inspection, you will “inspect” 12 workplaces depicted below and document the hazards you see on the sample checklist linked here .

Workplace 1

Workplace 4

Workplace 7

Workplace 10

Workplace 2

Workplace 5

Workplace 8

Workplace 11

Workplace 3

Workplace 6

Workplace 9

Workplace 12

Review each workplace photo and document on the workplace inspection checklist linked here all of the hazards that you see, at least 1 hazard per workplace. So you will have a minimum of 12 hazards identified on your checklist.

For each of the hazards that you document, also provide a recommendation on the checklist for fixing the hazard. So you will also have a minimum of 12 recommendations documented on your checklist. Use the NIOSH Hierarchy of Controls from this week’s learning materials and include which level of control your recommendations is.

Submit your completed checklist in Canvas.
